Free special events on Trafalgar Square in London

One kind of special events taking place during the year are all the different occations when the famous Trafalgar Square transforms into a huge stage. There are parades, religious festivities and cultural events. Read on to explore when is what and which ones you definitely shouldn`t miss.

So, let`s get started with the first thing in the year: New Years Parade. And of course, such as all parades going through the city of London do, passes by Trafalgar Square.

Next, we have Chinese New Year, which also takes place int he first months of the year. For this, obviously entire Chinatown converts into a huge festivity lane and on Trafalgar Square you can see classical Chinese art, songs and enjoy a great show.

During the complete year there are some sports competitions that end, start of come by Trafalgar Square. These mostly don`t involve any bigger festivities, but some are worth taking a look. Check the Visit London website to find out more.

There also are festivities for all the different religious holidays, such as Christmas for the Christians or special days for the large Hindu community. There are actually only few weekends in the year where you can find Trafalgar Square in its actual empty state.

Additionally, there are national holidays, such as the Irish St Patricks Day, which is also celebrated on Trafalgar Square with plenty of green.

The Lord Mayor Show as well as the parade for the Queen`s Birthday come by Trafalgar Square and are fun to watch.

Finally, we also have some cultural shows. So for example on specific dates during summer there is a free broadcasting of ballet shows from the National Opera on a huge screen while al the spectators simply gather sitting on the ground. Additionally, there is my favourite event going on: West End Live. Here the most famous West End Shows showcase a part of their musicals life on stage for everyone to watch - for free!

So as you see, there are many, many special events on Trafalgar Square and it is relatively easy to time a visit so that you can actually witness one of them. Also, from time to time there might be even more events scheduled here, so simply check the official Trafalgar Square website to find out more on the exact dates, times and conditions.
