What to see and do in Notting Hill in London

  • Kyoto Garden: This little area is located inside Holland Park and is a Japanese landspace garden. It includes a pond with lots of beautiful fish, some decoration and of course neat green spaces with plenty of benches to sit down and relax. There definitely is a completely different atmoshpere in here and you can get a proper break from the every day hustle. Also very fantastic about this place: There are peacocks wandering around that like to show their colourful feathers while being photographed!
  • Holland Park: This is a large Park in the area. It includes the Kyoto Gardens, a playground, a little opera, a cafe, the beautiful historic Orangery and the Design Museum at its southern edge. It is a wonderful place to wander around, relax and discover the plenty smal hidden spots with litle ponds and great views.
  • Portobello Road Market: This probably is what Notting Hill is most famous for. It is a large open air market with numerous little stalls along the roads. It is the biggest on week ends and actually also extends even further with stores and shops. In the background you always have the beautifully coloured typical houses, Things you can buy here include antique, decoration, clothing, food and actually pretty much everything else.
  • Design Museum: This is a museum at the southern end of Notting Hill, almost in Kensington already. It is free to access, even there are some ticketed special exhibitions and, well, it is about design. There are changing topics and always something modern and interesting to look at. It is not too big and not too busy either, which makes it a nice place to be.
  • Farm Place/Farmer Street: These two streets are part of the little area where you really find one of the pastel coloured houses next to another one. They all have pretty doors, old bicycles standing around and decorative fences. A truly magical place that seems unreal! Perfect for photos and dreaming about which one could be yours!
  • Museum of Brands: Another museum in the corner! This one unfortunately has no free acess, although the price is very minimal. It is pretty much about the evolution of brands, advertising and packaging. You can find your most favourite products here and make fun of what they looked like during your grand mother's childhood. There are also some chanign exhibitions about the future an new technologies evolving.
  • Notting Hill Book Shop: An absolutely world famous place! Yes, it is the one from the movie. With the well-known blue bench at the front and all the nice books inside. It is a little off the main street, but still easy to find. Definitely worth a visit even if you are not the biggest fan of the film.
